Hello World!Hello Xingyi|

The 2024 China Global Geoparks Annual Conference and the 20th Anniversary Seminar of the Global Geoparks Network were held in Xingyi, Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. Geologists, scholars, and geopark managers from around the world gathered to discuss topics such as the preservation of geological heritage, sustainable development, and new opportunities for cooperation within the global geoparks network.

Dr. Ren Fang, Deputy Director of the National Geopark Network Center Office and a member of the Executive Committee of UNESCO’s Global Geoparks Network, noted in an interview that the Xingyi Global Geopark has become an important member of the global network, recognized by UNESCO and holding significant international influence. She emphasized that, as a newly designated UNESCO Global Geopark, Xingyi should focus on promoting the sustainable use of its geological sites and fully showcasing its unique tangible and intangible cultural resources. “The distinctiveness of Xingyi's ethnic cultures and the humanistic qualities of its heritage sites make it highly attractive and will help bring it to the global stage, drawing more attention from the international community.”

Dr. Ren also highlighted the rich cultural heritage of ethnic groups such as the Buyi and Miao in Xingyi, which adds considerable cultural appeal to the geopark. She believes that these ethnic cultures enhance the park’s value within the Global Geoparks Network, making Xingyi stand out. Xingyi should not only confidently tell the story of its rich geological history but also share the stories of its local inhabitants, showing how they protect and utilize natural ecological resources to achieve global sustainable development goals. “In the future, by integrating its natural and cultural resources, Xingyi will undoubtedly achieve even more remarkable development,” she said, noting that the interplay between its geological sites and ethnic cultures highlights the deep integration of nature and human activity, thus adding greater value to the global network of geoparks.
